Based in London, Ontario, the Canadian operations employ approximately 1,700 people who design, manufacture and support light and medium armoured vehicles. Our specialists are among Canada’s finest in the defence industry who excel in the areas of machining, materials, electronics, software development, prototyping, logistic support and systems integration. A subsidiary of General Dynamics and an operating unit of General Dynamics Land Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada is a strong contributor to Canada’s global balance of trade, with more than 85 percent of its revenues coming from exports. It is through a substantial export business that General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada maintains a strong domestic-based business as the Canadian Army’s largest supplier of armoured military vehicles and the cornerstone of Canada’s defence industry.

Our History
Since 1977, General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, formerly General Motors Diesel Division, has been one of the major suppliers of armoured vehicles to the Canadian Army. The first series of armoured fighting vehicles, the armoured vehicle, general purpose (AVGP), was manufactured in three variants: the Grizzly, Cougar and Husky.
Evolving from the AVGP, the LAV has been designed and manufactured in multiple variants, such as the LAV II, LAV III and LAV 6.0, to meet the Canadian Army’s capability needs and to reflect defence industry market trends.
Providing the Canadian Army with Canadian-made, innovative armoured vehicles is still General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada’s main focus. We strive to ensure that we meet the needs of Canadian soldiers for the missions of today and tomorrow.
