Meet a Colleague from our Supply Chain Management Team

My Land Systems–Canada journey began with an internship in the Business Development department. It was a great experience, and opened my eyes to the wide range of roles that are available across the company. The breadth of opportunities – which would help me grow my career in different areas of the business – drove my decision to join Land Systems–Canada full-time.

I haven’t been disappointed! From Business Development I had the chance to move into Supply Chain Management, first as a buyer and now as a Project Lead. My time in the customer-facing area of our business was invaluable in helping me maximize my ability to add value in my current role. Moving across functions allows me to understand the importance of SCM’s procurement decisions, and how to best align them with the overall strategic goals of the company.

Working together, no matter what our role or function, is a cornerstone of how Land Systems–Canada does business. My favourite thing about working here is getting to be a part of cross-functional teams, interacting with my colleagues in other departments. It’s an opportunity for us all to learn together how we can better support each another as we pursue our common goals for the success of our business, and for our customers in uniform who trust their missions and their lives to our products.

It’s inspiring to be part of the work that we do. It’s equally fulfilling to take advantage of the many opportunities that the company offers to grow relationships with the people outside of your immediate team. For example, joining employee committees and resource groups are great ways to grow your network and create connections with colleagues over shared interests.

Just as powerful is the chance to help do our part for the communities where we live and work. For instance, I’m working with United Way as one of Land Systems–Canada’s GenNext ambassadors, and helped organize volunteers to serve breakfast to children in need in partnerships with United Way and LUSO Community Services.

Moments like that allow me to experience firsthand the willingness of my colleagues to band together and give back to the community. It was powerful to see the positive difference that the breakfast program has on the lives of the children and families who participate in it. It’s one of the many reasons that I’m proud to be part of Land Systems–Canada!

Meet a Colleague from our Human Resources Team

Land Systems–Canada just checks all the boxes for me. A world-leading company right in my own backyard. A place where I can dive into my field while also being exposed to career paths I might not have thought of. Being part of a team that’s great to work with, and that’s filled with people who love to volunteer to help others in need.

I grew up near London, graduated from Western University, and earned my post-grad HR degree from Fanshawe College. I joined Land Systems right out of school. Where better to get practical, hands-on experience in HR than at one of Canada’s most established companies – and one that does business around the world!

After working in Total Rewards in a contract role, I was thrilled to accept a salaried position with the Talent Acquisition team! I am lucky to have an amazing job that I enjoy, while still maintaining a work-life balance. And through our Impact program, I have access to great benefits, flexible work arrangements, and other amazing initiatives that offer employees help with everything from career growth to mental health resources.

Through Land Systems–Canada’s volunteer opportunities, I have been able to impact the London community by participating in volunteer programs that make a real difference. For example, I’ve participated in the Thames River Cleanup, and supported United Way initiatives like our school backpack drives.

I’ve received as much as I’ve given! Working here has led me to build relationships with so many amazing people. I can happily say that I have met lifelong friends during my career journey.

There are so many things that I like about working at Land Systems–Canada. You can learn and gain experience in your own field, but also explore career streams that you might not have thought you would be interested in (or didn’t know you could do)! The company supports and encourages that kind of career growth and movement across different functional departments.

This is a place that encourages you to be open to learning and to take advantage of new opportunities. Working here has opened my mind and allowed me to think of potential career growth that I didn’t even think was possible or that I didn’t think I would be interested in.

In the same vein, it’s great that there are so many “extracurricular” things to get involved in outside of your normal job. This is a perfect way to meet people and expand your network. It’s amazing how often our paths will cross within different functional groups.

In summary, Land Systems–Canada is a combination of things that’s hard to beat!

Meet a Colleague from our Contracts Team

You could say that I took the road less traveled in my career! I’m a scientist by training, and started out in vaccine development research. From there, I moved into pharmaceutical quality assurance, and then into automotive quality assurance.

It was a willingness to try new things that led me to Land Systems–Canada, when a logistics engineering role became available. I began as an associate specialist in Engineering, and then became an Area Manager. From there, I moved into the Contracts Department, where I’ve been since 2015.

The journey has taught me that you can use your transferrable experience, and learn and grow from every role you take on. Leverage all of it to find the next exciting opportunity – and there are plenty of them at Land Systems–Canada! It’s why I joined the team – this is a company with diverse opportunities for progression. It’s a great plus to be able to shape your career in a non-traditional way to suit your interests.

Besides that aspect of our business, the people I work with keep me coming back day after day. They are willing to give their time to make the place better for those they work with.

As a female leader, I’ve especially appreciated this firsthand through the Women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG). The women in our group are supportive and inclusive. Our monthly sessions for networking and career development always leave me feeling invigorated!

There are so many different groups at Land Systems–Canada, which reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion. It ranges from the Pride ERG and the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) Team to sports leagues for tennis and beach volleyball. That’s not to mention the many company-supported community volunteer opportunities you can be part of.

Another highlight of working for Land Systems–Canada is the opportunity for personal and professional growth that comes with working for a global enterprise. For example, I took an international assignment in the UK, and spent two years as Head of Commercial, where I was responsible for the Contracts and Subcontracts functions.

Its challenges helped me and my family to grow. I spent the first year in the UK by myself. Although being separated from each other by an ocean was tough, it also allowed my kids to see firsthand the example of a woman being a leader and advancing her career. They learned that everyone is entitled to career development opportunities, and that spouses make important sacrifices when their loved ones take on this kind of role. Additionally, my family joined me in the second year, and immensely enjoyed the experience of living abroad.

For those considering joining Land Systems–Canada, I’d say this. Your job is what you make it. You can make a workplace better by the attitude you bring to your job every day. Bringing a positive, solution-focused attitude to work every day helps the team to solve problems, achieve success, and approach situations with empathy. It encourages others to have a growth mindset, and that encourages everyone to focus their attention on building successful outcomes. That’s the kind of thinking we want at our great company.
